Dementia is a progressive clinical syndrome characterised by a range of cognitive and behavioural symptoms that can include memory loss, problems with reasoning and communication, a change in personality, and a reduced ability to carry out daily activities such as washing or dressing.

Living with a diagnosis of dementia can have a lasting impact on a person’s emotional, social and psychological state. Often people with dementia describe these impacts as a series of losses and find it difficult to adjust. WEAREFAMILY CARE looks beyond the diagnosis, as we value the person and we endeavour to promote independence as well as maintain positive social interactions.

We understand that personal relationships and social environment are some of the central elements that make people who they are regardless of age or mental ability. We support our staff and ensure that they are equipped to be community champions who strive to make sure that a person with dementia feels valued and included.

Dementia can be a very isolating condition to live with as the individual’s life is not the same as what everyone else sees, so we take pride in getting to know the individual and what matters to them most. This is one of the ways we implement a tailored care plan so that every individual will have their needs met.
